the work.
process of getting started
Whether you are looking for therapy or consultation,
the process is similar.
You can reach out to me by either my contact form or email, and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Pending availability, we can set up a discovery call to assess if I am the right fit for you and your family.
In the discovery call (20 minutes, free, grown-ups only) you can share a little bit about what’s happening for you, and I will share a little bit about how I work, answer any questions, discuss payment, and if it feels like a good fit, we can book our next session, which will be an intake session. I will send you some paperwork to fill out that we will review when we meet. The first 3 sessions will be adults-only, dedicated to gathering information and devising a treatment plan or goals/objectives for our work together.
At the intake session (about 1 hour, usually between the hours of 12-2pm between Monday and Thursday) we discuss process, policies, and consent for services. We will dive deeper into your concern(s) and situation. At this time, we will schedule our subsequent grown-up sessions.
In our 2 subsequent grown-up sessions, we will take this time to collaborate on a plan to support you and your child and get clear about your goals for treatment. We will set up regular recurring appointments with your child for play-based sessions, or continue with solely parent consultation at a consistency that aligns with our collective availability and your needs.
Play-based sessions (30, 45 or 60 minutes)
These will include regular individual sessions with your child, ideally on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, with dyad parent-child sessions sprinkled in as needed. The course of treatment for the Child-Centered Play Therapy approach is around 24 sessions, sometimes more, sometimes less.
Subsequent Parent consultation sessions (30, 45 or 60 minutes)
In conjunction with play-based sessions, we will continue to meet monthly via telehealth as grown-ups to check in, strategize together, and provide ongoing support for you as your child engages in this process. The intention for these sessions is to stay in alignment around your goals for your child, process together about your child’s behaviors or experiences we had together in a dyad session, and for you to feel supported and uplifted through the process of your child’s therapy.
“If we are wise, we watch our child’s development with understanding, we gain their confidence, and we share in the full joy of their happy childhood.”
